Obama’s Resistance to Investigating the Bush Administration Allowed Brett Kavanaugh to Skate Onto the Supreme Court
“Both Kavanaugh’s time with the Bush administration and his involvement with the administration’s controversial policies have been a constant undercurrent to the Senate hearings on his nomination, but he largely escaped serious scrutiny on that record — even though Kavanaugh continued to advocate for the worst of the security state from the bench.”
One of Barack Obama’s first decisions after being elected president continued to haunt the country as Brett Kavanaugh was sworn in.
“Every leap forward for American democracy — from slavery’s abolition to women’s suffrage to minimum-wage laws to the Civil Rights Acts to gay marriage — has been traceable to the revolutionary river, not the resistance. In fact, the whole of American history can be described as a struggle between those who truly embraced the revolutionary idea of freedom, equality and justice for all and those who resisted.”
Donald Trump is the one who is pushing back against the new nation that’s struggling to be born.
On the “I am the Resistance in the Trump Administration” Op-Ed
“Assume that this was written by a senior Trump Administration official. Why? It’s called crisis control. The Republicans in Congress are telling us that they really, really like having a puppet in the White House, one who could win the election despite his total inability to be the country’s chief executive but one they have under control. Through this anonymous official they reassure us that as long as Trump is in office they will protect us from his idiocy while promoting the wonderful GOP agenda. Better to have their hands on all the controls and use his populist appeal to help get Republicans elected and re-elected. This is why Lindsey Graham is so eager to keep him in office. No need to submit the country to a tiresome impeachment process or Mueller prosecution that would derail the GOP agenda of cutting taxes on the rich and benefits on the poor, dismantling the EPA, destroying public education, great Supreme Court nominations, building a bloated military…well, no need to go on. Who needs three branches of government anyway? This is the GOP version of everything’s fine, we’ve got America’s back (our version of it). All you left wingers make nice with with the right wingers and we will screw all of you in a nice, civil way. Are you feeling reassured yet?”
“But these successes have come despite — not because of — the president’s leadership style, which is impetuous, adversarial, petty and ineffective.
From the White House to executive branch departments and agencies, senior officials will privately admit their daily disbelief at the commander in chief’s comments and actions. Most are working to insulate their operations from his whims.”
I work for the president but like-minded colleagues and I have vowed to thwart parts of his agenda and his worst inclinations.
You’re not resisting anything unless you resist bad democrats as well. Kick the bums out 2018!
