This is the power of unions. Solidarity with those striking today ✊🏻
Amazon now has more power than any US state or city.
All hail Amazon, your corporate overlord
Elevation Partners Co-Founder Roger McNamee and Jay Samit, “Disrupt You!” author, discuss Amazon’s 20-city shortlist for its new second headquarters.
The network has been almost silent on the president’s alleged affair with Stephanie Clifford, aka Stormy Daniels.
“The Democrats as a party currently do little more than speak their truth to GOP power. They do not act as or collaborate with or try to build a real social opposition. As far as the party goes, there are no demonstrations, no mass mobilizations: The Democrats vote and lose and make weak speeches to ever-smaller audiences. Democrats seem to fear losing major donations and donors were they to mount real opposition. The primary loyalty of major donors is to the capitalist system that undergirds their social position. This or that form of capitalism is of much less importance. The GOP gets this, too. Both parties now pander to the same donors; they have become, more than before, two wings of a party unified in its devotion to capitalism.”
People are speaking truth to capitalism with socialism.
When the balance of power shifts, I hope there’s enough new progressive blood in congress willing to force through bills undoing all this damage. This is now regular order. Prepare for the other edge of this blade to slice their conservative noses off. After years of obstruction, stealing a Supreme Court seat, and complete disregard for transparency or hearings, there is no longer a need to listen to calls of compromise. When confronted with ideological purists willing to sacrifice everything on behalf of corporations and the 1%, we need ideological purists willing to strike back on behalf of the American people.
This. Even if they didn’t cause the fire.
“If it turns out that PG&E is responsible for this fire and negligent for not putting in the resources or for diverting the resources,” Hill said, “then I will be the first one to stand up and say we need to dissolve PG&E as a private company and form a public utility. We would not have the confidence or trust in them in the future. Nor should we.”
Dispatch records show that Sonoma County residents were reporting electrical trouble just as the fires erupted. Now questions are being raised about how well PG&E had maintained its equipment.
In other words – you are being RIPPED OFF!
“De Loecker and Eeckhout analyzed the balance sheets of listed companies from 1950 to 2014. (In 2014, these firms accounted for around 40% of all sales.) They found that average markups, defined as the amount above cost at which a product is sold, have shot up since 1980. The average markup was 18% in 1980, but by 2014 it was nearly 70%.”
New research suggests that the US is not nearly as competitive as it used to be.
