800,000 mostly unionized workers have been working for almost a month without pay. The fact that there hasn’t been a general strike to end this egregious shutdown shows how weak, fractured, and neutered the U.S. labor movement is. Workers used to shut down entire cities in order to get pay raises, improve working conditions, and achieve an eight hour day. Now they don’t even whimper when they’re forced to work for nothing. The Pennsylvania Supreme Court released its congressional district map Monday to be used for the 2018 elections, the latest in an ongoing gerrymandering case. Republicans have vowed to resist the court’s order.
