“Pelosi and the Democratic Party leadership’s support of Paygo makes actually solving these crises all but impossible. The Democratic Party leadership is unilaterally disarming and shooting themselves in the foot.”
The pay-go rule makes it more difficult for Democrats to pass a host of liberal agenda items, while Republicans are free to blow big holes in the tax code.
The fact that Nancy Pelosi is the “best choice” for speaker of the House is telling with what’s wrong with the Democratic Party, and American politics in general.
I know, you’re getting ready to attack me as a Russian troll or Trumper, as most always try to. The fact is that I am in an elected leader within the Democratic Party of my town, so spare me the nonsense. This is an issue I see every single election cycle. The Democratic bench of good candidates is almost non existent.
Sure, every so often we actually elect someone who is good. Usually when a decent person is elected, it’s because they crashed their way into power, see Alexandria Ocasio Cortez. And that’s how I came to a leadership role, in a much more modest way, by organizing and overthrowing my town committee.
The Democratic bench is comprised of kiss asses and party hacks. Only after you prove your undying loyalty to the party power structure, are you allowed to run for office. The same is true in the state legislatures and congress. You don’t get to Congress unless you show the power brokers you are serious, serious about doing what you’re told and what is right for them.
This leads us to where we are today, or where we were in 2016. We don’t have viable people in congress to take leadership roles. We don’t have decent people in state houses to take leadership roles. We have party hacks who will put career advancement ahead of their constituents, their country, and even their own friends and family. This is why we’re stuck with Nancy. And this is why we’re routinely stuck with voting for the “lesser of two evils”.
I am trying to make change in my town and in the party, and it’s an absolute slog. Every other week I feel like quitting, just giving up and focusing on my life. But we have problems that no one in power wants to solve. Hell, forget solving them, we have problems that people don’t even want to acknowledge. If people like us give up, who will fight for what’s right? Please people, get involved in some way. We desperately need you
“How did these progressive hard-liners justify supporting Pelosi, whose history of ideological compromise and big-donor fund-raising represents much of what they despise about the modern Democratic Party? They said her opponents were worse.“
What an inspiration….
When it comes to dealing with her opponents inside the Capitol’s marble walls, no one in her party even comes close.
Nancy Pelosi Wants to Find “Common Ground” With Donald Trump. But Her Job Right Now Is to Fight Fascism.
“The next two years will be a battle for the heart, soul, and future of U.S. democracy; it will be a nonstop, 24/7 struggle against incipient fascism and unabashed white nationalism. The president who wants his base to believe that constitutionally mandated recounts are illegitimate, who deploys thousands of troops to the border during an election campaign to stop an “invasion” from a migrant caravan 700 miles away, and who thinks Democrats are “evil” and “crazy” won’t go quietly into the night.”
The correct response to a white nationalist president is to relentlessly resist and call out his behavior as dangerously abnormal.
Message to the Democratic Party elite, get in line or get out of the way!
“It’s a full-spectrum vision of a sustainable social democracy — a level of progressive ambition that most US citizens have likely never encountered
“It is an inverted mirror image of the Tea Party: Rather than trying to bring out the worst in Republicans, activists are trying to bring out the best in Democrats.”
The struggle is on for control of the long-term Democratic climate agenda.
Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Joins Environmental Activists in Protest at Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi’s Office
Hell YES! This is what leadership looks like. This is what an actual progressive looks like!
Ocasio-Cortez’s decision to break with decorum and join the protesters could, paradoxically, open up space for her to support Pelosi on the House floor.
Bernie-styled progressive, Stephen Jaffe For Congress, is challenging Nancy Pelosi from the left. ✊
San Francisco attorney Stephen R. Jaffe is a lifelong Democrat and he intends to do what no Democrat has been able to do so far: make it to a runoff election against House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi.
“A swing of just 26 Democrats would have defeated the measure.” #McResistance
The bill would renew a law that underpins two giant NSA programs that purport to target foreigners, but also collect massive amounts of data on Americans.
