“The subsidies were $4.9 tn in 2013 and they rose to $5.3 tn just two years later. According to the authors, these subsidies are important because first, they promote fossil fuel use which damages the environment. Second, these are fiscally costly. Third, the subsidies discourage investments in energy efficiency and renewable energy that compete with the subsidized fossil fuels. Finally, subsidies are very inefficient means to support low-income households.”
John Abraham: A new study finds 6.5% of global GDP goes to subsidizing dirty fossil fuels
I watched as John McCain gave a pretty speech to the Senate about working as a bipartisan group on a health care bill (something he refused to do during the Obama years) , and a big FU to the American people, when he voted for McConnell’s handout to the super rich. McCain has brain cancer, so what? My father had the exact same cancer McCain has and died a horrible death. My brother died a horrible death from cancer. Having cancer does not excuse you from being a horrible person who votes to take health care away from millions of people, especially when you have access to the best health care money can buy. It makes you a hypocrite with cancer, and that is all.
