Brilliant Essay: “How did the Republican Party became a dangerous cult? Desperate to halt a terrifying tide of social transformation, the political heirs of Jim Crow flooded into the weak and nearly empty infrastructure of the Southern GOP. Men like Alabama’s Roy Moore and Texas’ Rick Perry were the last generation of white Southern men to begin their careers as Democrats. The flight of millions of Dixiecrats into the GOP shifted the balance of power inside the party nationwide. Their fear-soaked, delusional fervor converted that institution from a conventional political party into a white nationalist cult. The Party of Lincoln now exists to help Neo-Confederates win the Civil War politically, long after losing it on the battlefield.”
By all accounts, the members of the Heaven’s Gate cult were nice people who avoided harming others. They kept their sickness inside their ranks. By contrast, Republicans are forcing an entire country, and to a certain extent the world, to choke down their poisoned applesauce.

If you work for a living, your taxes are going up under the GOP / Trump tax plan.
“It raises another $1.3 trillion by going after deductions for state and local taxes, mortgage interest, charitable contributions, interest on student loans, medical expenses, teachers’ out-of-pocket expenses for paper and pencils for students, and a bunch of other nickel-and-diming of the middle class. No change drawer in the car, couch cushion, or plastic piggy bank is going untouched in the hunt for money to pay for the tax cut. “

Forbes, of all places, has published a damning piece on the GOP tax bill. This is not economics, this is manifest corruption and the result of selling our politicians to the highest bidder.
“There’s no economic justification whatsoever for a tax cut at this time. U.S. GDP is growing, unemployment is close to 4 percent (below what is commonly considered “full employment”), corporate profits are at record levels and stock markets are soaring. It makes no sense to add any federal government-induced stimulus to all this private sector-caused economic activity, let alone a tax cut as big as this one.”
The GOP tax cut now working its way through Congress will be the start of a decades-long fiscal policy disaster unlike any others that have occurred in American history.
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and a slew of other Republicans called on Senate candidate Roy Moore of Alabama to “step aside” if new allegations that he had sexual contact with a 14-year-old girl — in 1979, when he was 32 — are true.
“51 Republican Senators just voted to cut Medicaid by $1 trillion and Medicare by $500 billion so that millionaires and corporations can get a tax cut. It’s immoral and despicable,” #MAGA
The Republican budget, declared Sen. Sanders after its passage, “is not a bad bill. It’s a horrific bill.”
“The Koch network has said it plans to spend between $300 million and $400 million on policy and political campaigns in 2017 and 2018 — up from the roughly $250 million invested in the 2016 campaign season”
A group backed by billionaires Charles and David Koch said Thursday it will spend $4.5 million on ads to urge three Senate Democrats who face challenging 2018 re-election bids to back Republican efforts to dramatically reshape the federal tax system.
And this is coming from Bruce Bartlett, a former policy adviser to Ronald Reagan, who by his own account, helped spur the trickle down myth in the first place.
We’ve moved into cult-like territory with these modern day Republicans. Total disregard for reason and blind loyalty to conservative dogma. Bald faced in their agenda to appease the 1%.
The best growth in recent memory came after President Bill Clinton raised taxes in the ’90s.
