The new governor of CT is proposing a sales tax on groceries. I like this idea better!
That’s funny Chris Murphy. When you did your CT walking tour and stopped in my town you said:
a) you don’t support Medicare for all and that the ACA was sufficient
b) gave the same right wing talking points republicans use about “entitlement spending crowding out the budget” when asked about lifting the cap of social security
c) you and the democratic leadership have provided no check on trump besides rhetoric and empty speeches
Three corporate Democrats in the CT state senate broke ranks Friday and voted for a GOP budget. The budget destroys workers rights, decimates higher ed, and cuts taxes on the wealthy while raising them on he working class.
The Anti-Worker Budget ends the Citizens Election Program (CEP), which publicly funds our political campaigns. Without the CEP, politicians will need to pander to wealthy interests in order to fund their campaigns instead of representing the people of out state. #SaveCEP
CT showing up for union rights
Yale refuses to bargain with their grad students who formed a union. They’re waiting for Trumps labor board to be in place, hoping they won’t need to alnowledge the student’s union. Good work people, keep up the heat! ✊???
We need some heavy lifting in CT. We are close to passing the National Popular Vote compact, but need to sway a few more legislators. Please reach out and help push them!
To clarify, since we’re getting lots of questions – this is NOT the end of the road for the National Popular Vote bill. The bill was “passed temporarily” meaning that it was delayed for later consideration and that a vote was not held.
What we DID learn today is that the list of undecided legislators continues to shrink, with 5 Representatives, Miller, Adams, Berger, Gentile, and Reyes, voicing their support for the bill.
A tentative list of the remaining UNDECIDED House Democrats comes down to 9, please be courteous when you reach out:
The Speaker of the CT House, Speaker Joe Aresimowicz, will not bring the National Popular Vote bill up for a vote. Despite public support and supposedly having the votes to pass, the bill that would effectively end the Electoral College will not get a floor vote in CT due to Joe.
The last two republican presidents have come to power through the Electoral College system and through cheating – Bush was awarded the presidency from his brother, then Governor of Florida, and Daddy Bushes Supreme Court, while Trump won the Electoral College through voter purges in states like Michigan, Wisconsin, and Pennsylvania under the Crosscheck system.
Don’t you think it’s time Democrats grew a spine and stood up for voter rights in America? When are they going to push back against GOP cheating, gerrymandering, and voter disenfranchisement?
Please leave a message on Joes page and tell him to bring this bill to a vote!
My state, CT, may close the carried interest loophole. It would equal $520 million a year, just in my small state.
The carried interest loophole allows hedge fund managers to shelter their income and pay a lower capital gains rate of 20% on it. It’s time to close the loop hole nationally!
