Congratulations to Washington state!
What an incredible Election Day 2017 this was! We should all celebrate today – and double down on organizing tomorrow.
When our movements are bold and intersectional, love wins over hate and we can bend the moral arc of the universe toward justice. There’s nothing like turning Virginia blue, electing the first-ever transgender lawmaker in that state, or seeing the historic election of a Sikh-American mayor in New Jersey to stand up for our values of fairness, inclusivity, and justice for all.
In our communities, from Elect Lorena González and Teresa Mosqueda on the Seattle City Council, to a huge victory for Manka Dhingra in the hotly contested race for the 45th District State Senate seat, I’m incredibly proud and excited to see strong and experienced women of color with progressive priorities winning office. I’m delighted to see Zachary DeWolf for Seattle School Board, a rising voice for equity, elected to the Seattle School Board. And I am hopeful about positive initial returns in close races for King County Sheriff and Burien City Council – for Mitzi for Sheriff and ReElect Nancy Tosta, Elect Jimmy Matta for Burien, Pedro Olguin for Burien City Council, and Krystal Marx for Burien City Council!
Organizing wins: #TeamPramila knocked on 6,000 doors for Manka Dhingra to help flip the 45th District and win a Democratic majority in the Washington State Senate; 1500 doors for Teresa Mosqueda; and over 2000 doors for “Burien for All” slate of progressive City Council candidates.
